Williston State College Reports Record-Breaking Enrollment For Fall 2025
Williston State College is celebrating another semester of record-breaking enrollment, continuing a trend of growth the institution says reflects the strength of its programs and the value of studying close to home.
As of the official Sept. 22 census day, WSC reported 1,175 students enrolled, an 11% increase from last year and the highest fall headcount in the college’s history. Full-time equivalent enrollment also rose, reaching 790 students, a 3% increase from Fall 2024.
Freshman enrollment led the gains, totaling 787 students. That figure marks an 8.7% increase and more than 60 above the previous record set last year. Dual credit courses also saw unprecedented growth. A total of 386 high school students enrolled in classes that count toward both their diploma and college credits, a 46% increase that represents the highest number in WSC’s history.
“These record numbers highlight the momentum we continue to see at Williston State,” said WSC President Dr. Bernell Hirning. “Students are choosing to stay in North Dakota, or come here from surrounding states, because they see the opportunities available to them through our programs, our partnerships, and the support of our community.”
Hirning said the expansion comes as the college prepares to open its new healthcare training facility later this fall. The first three programs—Certified Medical Assistant, EMT, and Phlebotomy—are scheduled to launch in January.
Additional co-matriculation agreements with Dickinson State, Mayville State, Valley City State, and Minot State universities are also expected to provide students with new pathways to bachelor’s degrees without leaving Williston.

“Reaching new milestones is exciting, but what it really shows is that more students and families recognize the value of starting here,” Hirning said. “With new programs and pathways on the horizon, the potential for growth is significant, and we are committed to supporting every student who chooses WSC.”
