The Lasting Influence of Ardean Aafedt on Western North Dakota Baseball

Aafedt passed away earlier this spring on May 4, but his influence on youth athletics and recreation in Williston continues to be deeply felt throughout the community. According to the committee, Aafedt devoted more than 70 years to recreation and was widely recognized as one of the “founding fathers” of Babe Ruth Baseball in western North Dakota.

Throughout his lifetime, Aafedt’s passion for baseball and community involvement helped shape opportunities for generations of young athletes. His commitment to recreation and youth programs extended far beyond the baseball diamond, as he continually worked to create positive experiences for local families and children.

Williston Boys Baseball Committee Pays Tribute to Ardean Aafedt

For many involved with Williston baseball, Aafedt’s dedication left a lasting mark on the sport and on the community itself. Committee members noted that his contributions helped build programs that continue to serve local players and families today.

The Williston Boys Baseball Committee said dedicating the 2026 season in his honor is a way to recognize Aafedt’s years of service and ensure his legacy remains connected to the game he cared so deeply about.

“Ardean was a tremendous supporter of youth baseball and recreation in Williston,” the committee shared in a statement. “His passion for helping young people and building opportunities for families made a difference that will continue for many years to come.”

The committee also announced that a memorial banner honoring Aafedt will be displayed throughout the season at Aafedt Stadium.

Community members attending games this summer will have an opportunity to reflect on the lasting impact Aafedt had on Williston athletics, recreation, and youth development.
