Tom Kvamme’s Influence Reached Far Beyond The Williston Herald Newsroom
Kvamme first arrived in Williston in 1984 to work as a journalist for the Williston Herald, but his influence quickly expanded far beyond the newsroom. Over the years, he became involved in numerous community efforts, including the annual Sports and Recreation Show, the Chokecherry Festival, the Williams County War Memorial Plaza, and the development of the Virgil Syverson Performing Arts Center.
Friends, supporters, and community leaders gathered Monday not only to remember Tom’s accomplishments but also the personal qualities that made him so respected throughout the region — his humility, kindness, and willingness to help wherever needed.
Throughout the ceremony, speakers reflected on how Kvamme quietly worked behind the scenes for the betterment of Williston without seeking recognition for himself. Monday’s dedication ensured his name and contributions would continue to be remembered by future generations.
The newly unveiled plaque now stands at the Virgil Syverson Performing Arts Center as a permanent reminder of one man’s lifelong commitment to building community and preserving civic pride in Williston.
