Williams County Parks Project Brings Major Changes to Epping/Springbrook Dam
Williams County residents and outdoor enthusiasts will soon see major improvements at the popular Epping/Springbrook Dam recreation area, but first, visitors will need to be patient while construction gets underway.
County officials announced this week that Epping/Springbrook Dam is officially closed to visitors and campers as crews begin a series of upgrades tied to the county’s Parks Master Plan implementation efforts. According to county leaders, the park is expected to remain closed for the rest of 2026 while work is completed.

The temporary closure marks another step in Williams County’s ongoing effort to modernize and improve parks and recreation areas throughout the region. Over the past several years, county leaders have focused on making local outdoor destinations more accessible, safer, and more enjoyable for residents and travelers alike.
Several major upgrades are planned for the Epping/Springbrook Dam area. One of the most significant changes will involve reconfiguring the park entrance to improve both accessibility and traffic safety for visitors entering and exiting the park.

New Campsites, Amphitheater, and Modern Amenities Planned for Park Upgrade
The county also plans to pave the main campground road, which should create a smoother driving experience and reduce dust throughout the camping area. Campers can also look forward to improved campsites featuring new water and electric hook-ups, giving visitors more modern conveniences and expanding options for RV camping.
Another addition expected to attract attention is a new outdoor lawn chair amphitheater. Officials say the space could eventually host community gatherings, performances, and outdoor entertainment opportunities while offering another unique feature for visitors enjoying the scenic area.
In addition, a brand-new comfort station with restrooms and showers is part of the project. The upgraded facility is expected to provide a more comfortable experience for campers and day-use visitors once the park reopens.

Officials Say Long-Term Improvements Will Make Closure Worth the Wait
County officials say they understand the closure may be disappointing for those who regularly camp or spend time at Epping/Springbrook Dam, especially during the warmer months. However, they believe the improvements will significantly enhance the park for years to come.
No official reopening date has been announced beyond the expectation that the park will remain closed through the remainder of 2026. Williston residents, an danyone that enjoys camping are encouraged to watch for updates from Williams County as construction progresses.
