How Spring Lake Park's Historic Amphitheater Is Being Restored

There are some places in a community that seem to have always been there.

For many of us in Williston, the amphitheater at Spring Lake Park is one of those places. It's been a gathering spot for concerts, community events, and summer evenings for decades, and now a couple of local organizations are working together to give the facility a much-needed facelift.

The Williams County Parks Department and the Williston Noon Lions Club have taken on the project, and it looks like the old amphitheatre is getting some significant upgrades.

And there's a little history behind it, too.

A Project With Some History

The amphitheater was originally a Williston Lions project back in 1976 in honor of the nation's bicentennial celebration, so having the Lions involved again feels like a nice full-circle moment.

Over the years, time and weather have taken their toll. The groups have already completed several improvements, including replacing decking, installing a new roof, moving power, and improving drainage around the facility.

Those may not be the flashy improvements that grab everyone's attention, but they're the kind of projects that make a facility safer, more useful, and ready to serve the community for years to come.

There's Still Work to Do

The groups aren't finished yet.

One of the biggest goals they're hoping to complete this season is adding concrete for new bleachers and making the outdoor facility handicap accessible.

The Williston Noon Lions are selling raffle tickets to help raise money for the next phase of the project. Tickets are $10 each, with prizes including a commemorative firearm as the first prize, along with $500 for second place and $300 for third place. Raffle participation is subject to applicable laws and eligibility requirements.

Tickets are available through members of the Williston Noon Lions Club.

And They're Looking for a Few Lions

There's another piece of the project that has a little more personality.

Jeremy Ludlum with Williams County Parks says they're looking for some of those concrete lion lawn statues to help add some character to the area.

If you have one you'd like to donate or would like to contribute toward purchasing a few, the group would certainly appreciate it.

It's always encouraging to see an old community gathering place get some attention, especially when the people doing the work have a connection to the facility that goes back generations.

The Spring Lake Park amphitheater has been part of Williston for nearly 50 years.

With a little work, a little community support, and maybe a few concrete lions standing guard, it looks like it will be ready for many more years of summer memories.
