Walmart’s Price Adjustment: What It Means For North Dakota Shoppers
Keep an eye out for some big price increases coming shortly to North Dakota Walmart stores if you do any grocery shopping there.

With 10,490 locations in the United States and 23 other countries, Walmart generated sales of more than $600.9 billion in the most recent Capital One Shopping survey, reestablishing its position as the top retailer in the country.
Inflation rates during the pandemic had a significant impact on food prices, as you may have observed if you've purchased at any of those stores. Rates of food inflation peaked in 2022, according to this US Inflation Calculator article, at a staggering 10.4 percent. So, it's a major deal when Walmart announces a price change.
In fact, that was the chain's most recent move. They announced it on their corporate earnings call for the fourth quarter of 2023, which was another prosperous quarter for the company. North Dakotan consumers will be pleased to hear this.
Doug McMillon, president and CEO of Walmart, reportedly stated in this Food & Wine article that the retailer has reduced the pricing of some popular supermarket items to levels seen before the pandemic. He pointed out that the prices of deli snacks, apples, and eggs have dropped significantly and are now comparable to what they were four years ago.
Yahoo Life cited John R. Furner, president and chief executive officer of Walmart U.S., as saying, "Another Walmart executive, another price drop."
The price of French bread was increased due to inflation, but Furner stated in the Yahoo Life article that they returned it to its original price of $1. One more: rotisserie chicken. 'That price has dropped by one dollar,' Furner stated in the Yahoo article.
As dry groceries and consumables start to deflate,' according to Yahoo's reporting of Walmart's earnings call, "other grocery items will likely continue to fall in price" as we approach the spring and summer seasons.
