North Dakota Celebrates Community Health Center Week
North Dakota's Governor Kelly Armstrong has proclaimed August 3rd–9th 2025 as Community Health Center Week in North Dakota.
Armstrong made the proclamation to recognize the roles that Community Health Centers play in ensuring access to affordable, high-quality health care across the state.
In the proclamation, Armstrong praised the state’s five Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) for their service to more than 36,000 North Dakotans in 2024. There are currently 27 Community Health Centers across 20 communities, providing care regardless of a patient's insurance status or ability to pay.
“For 60 years, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) have provided high-quality, affordable." Armstrong noted in the proclamation. "Comprehensive primary and preventive health care in medically underserved communities, having a significant impact on America's health care system.”
Community health centers operate as the nation's largest primary care network, serving more than 32.5 million people in over 15,000 communities nationwide. It is estimated that 10% of all Americans receive care through a CHC.
North Dakota’s CHCs also offer integrated care, including dental, vision, behavioral health, and pharmacy services.
The whole-person approach is designed to improve health outcomes while lowering overall health system costs, which is especially beneficial in areas facing challenges such as distance, poverty, or lack of insurance.

Collectively, North Dakota’s CHCs contribute over $100 million to the state’s economy and employ more than 400 people, according to the proclamation.
Community Health Center Week serves as a moment to acknowledge the providers, staff, board members, and patients who contribute to the success of these facilities. Events across the state this week will highlight patient stories, offer health screenings, and connect communities with vital resources.
