North Dakota Brings the Laughs With Its 2025 Name-A-Plow Challenge
We all know what November brings...snow and tons of cold weather. That said, NDDOT is throwing some fun into the winter mix again this year with a unique contest.

The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) is inviting everyone in North Dakota to unleash their creativity and take part in the 2023 Name-A-Plow Contest. This exciting initiative allows residents to suggest unique names for snowplows in their home districts.

As winter approaches, these snowplows play a vital role in keeping our roads safe and clear, and now you have the chance to give them a memorable identity. I did some research and found winners from 2024.
- Bismarck District: Snow Force One
- Devils Lake District: Optimus Brine
- Dickinson District: Mr. Snowjangles
- Fargo District: Clearapathra
- Grand Forks District: Plower Ranger
- Minot District: Iron Bladen
- Valley City District: Sled Zeppelin
- Williston District: Catch My Drift
The contest is in full swing and will run until November 21, 2025. To participate, all you need to do is come up with a catchy name for a snowplow in your area. The NDDOT has a few simple rules to follow:
- Names should be appropriate and under 15 characters in length.
- In case of duplicate submissions, the first entry received will be the one considered.
- Group submissions are welcome (e.g., schools, nursing homes), but make sure to include a contact name.
After the contest deadline, the NDDOT will select the winning names for each district. The lucky winners will have the opportunity to meet the dedicated plow operators and even have their photos taken with the plows, creating lasting memories of their contribution to their community.
So, get those creative juices flowing and submit your unique, under-15-character snowplow name ideas to the NDDOT. Help us give these hardworking machines a special identity that North Dakotans will remember for years to come. You can get all the details here, and even submit your suggestion. Good luck!
