North Dakota Considers Sleek New Blackout License Plates
In the bustling halls of the North Dakota Capitol in Bismarck, lawmakers are abuzz with discussions ranging from resurrecting blue laws to hunting regulations. Today's schedule shows a proposal catching eyes (and maybe cars) is Senate Bill 2133, which introduces a new way for residents to customize their vehicles: blackout license plates.
North Dakota Joins the Trend: Sleek Blackout License Plates Proposed
Spearheaded by Senator Kristin Roers, the bill suggests that North Dakota jump on the blackout plate bandwagon, a trend already popular in several states, including Minnesota. These plates are distinguished by a black background with white letters and numbers, offering a sleek and modern look for any vehicle.
Here is what Minnesota's looks like:
Affordable Style: Blackout Plates Offer Customization Options
"The intent behind the bill is to have it treated like any specialty plate," explained Senator Roers. With an initial fee of $15 and a yearly fee of $25, these plates aren’t just stylish—they’re an affordable way to jazz up your ride. Want to personalize your plate with a custom combination of letters and numbers? That’ll be an additional $25, but imagine the fun you could have with it!
The blackout plate’s appeal lies in its clean, minimalist design, which has already proven a hit in neighboring Minnesota, where sales exceeded 250,000 in the first year alone. With the Senate Transportation Committee set to hear the bill today, January 16,
North Dakotans may soon find their highways just a little bit cooler. There is no question they would be different. Maybe something different would make those cool cars a little bit cooler.
Stay tuned to see if these blackout plates make their way to a car near you!
