Battle of the Badges Blood Drive Returns to Williston North Dakota
The friendly rivalry between the Williston Fire Department and Williston Police Department has spanned over five decades, marked by events like the 53rd Annual Guns vs. Hoses softball game.
Now, these first responders are coming together once again on Monday, February 5th and Tuesday, February 6th for the 2nd Annual Battle of the Badges Blood Drive at the National Guard New Armory, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM both days. Walk-ins are welcome!
The Blood Drive welcomes anyone eligible to donate. Each donor gets a vote for either the police or fire department. The winner, determined by the most votes, receives the traveling trophy until the next Battle of the Badges Blood Drive, along with bragging rights for the year. Last year saw the police department emerge victorious.
The donation process involves checking in at the entrance, completing or reviewing a questionnaire with trained staff, and then settling into a comfortable reclining chair. The collection process, which usually takes less than fifteen minutes, is followed by a brief stay to enjoy light snacks and refreshments for rehydration and nourishment. That's all there is to it - a simple way to make a significant impact.
Younger blood donors are encouraged to donate because they often have healthier blood. Their vital participation ensures a steady and diverse blood supply, crucial for emergencies and advancing medical treatments.
With North Dakota typically having only a two-day supply of blood, the need for donations is constant. Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. requires blood. Donating blood can save up to three lives, and the process is relatively short and safe.
