North Dakota Keeps It Chewy: The Surprising Candy We Love Most on Halloween
Halloween will be here before you know it, and if you’re still debating what candy to hand out this year, don’t worry, you’re not alone. Luckily, the folks at APT 2B did some digging (or maybe snacking) to help us all out. They looked at search data from the past five years, just for the month of October, to find the most popular Halloween candy in every state. They even surveyed 1,000 parents of kids ages 5 to 13 to get a better idea of how trick-or-treating looks in today’s world.
Turns out, candy says a lot about who we are. From the treats people crave to how neighborhoods celebrate, this candy census shows how we’re all keeping the Halloween spirit alive and well!

So, what’s the favorite candy in our neck of the woods? Let’s take a look!
Montana – They’re keeping it classic with those little Dum-Dum suckers. Simple, sweet, and perfect for tossing into a candy bucket.
Minnesota – The Land of 10,000 Lakes runs on peanut M&M’s. Crunchy, colorful, and impossible to stop at just one handful.

South Dakota – They’re all about the Snickers bar. Because who doesn’t love chocolate, caramel, and peanuts all in one bite?
North Dakota – And here at home, Starbursts are still shining bright! Whether it’s pink, red, or that underappreciated yellow, it seems we just can’t resist a chewy burst of fruity goodness.
So, grab your favorite candy and get ready — because before long, the doorbells will be ringing, the costumes will be out, and the sweetest night of the year will be here! Enjoy, North Dakota!
