Things That Go Bump in the Bakken: Williston’s Spookiest Spots
Halloween is here, and if you’re looking to add a little more spook (and a lot more weirdness) to your day, you don’t have to go far. Williston, North Dakota, has its fair share of ghost stories—and a few local legends that might make you want to keep the lights on tonight.

You’ve probably heard about the strange goings-on at our radio station. Yep, the very one you’re listening to. Two different paranormal groups have been in to investigate, and let’s just say they didn’t leave empty-handed. Unexplained sounds, flickering lights, that eerie feeling that someone’s watching you—classic haunted building vibes. We’re not saying our station’s haunted… but we’re also not saying it’s not.
And when we asked on Facebook about other haunted spots around Williston, you all delivered some spine-tingling tales.
Take Savanna Amundson’s experience, for example. She joined one of those ghost-hunting nights, expecting a little over-the-top drama for fun. But instead, she got a story she still swears by. Her group was told about the spirit of a little girl who supposedly lingers in one room at the James Memorial Art Center.

With the lights off, cameras rolling, Savanna sat on the floor to “chat” with her. Then—bam—a cold touch on her arm. When she asked if someone had brushed against her, the team got excited. The camera had captured the exact same spot being touched by… something unseen. Her sister still wishes she’d been recording, but maybe it’s better left to the imagination! Weird, right?

Then there’s Jennifer Konze’s story from Arby’s. Yep, apparently even the land of curly fries and roast beef has a resident ghost. The staff calls him Chappy, and he’s been “working” there for about twenty years—throwing things, moving items, and giving employees a good jump scare. Nothing like a side of supernatural with your sandwich.
And finally, Vanessa Fischer shared a story about her home that gives off some serious “nope” energy. She and her roommate were jolted awake by three loud knocks—right at 3 a.m., the witching hour. No one outside, no wind, no reason. Even the dog didn’t react. That’s when you know it’s weird.
So whether you’re out trick-or-treating or just curling up at home tonight, remember: Williston has more than its share of things that go bump in the Bakken. Sleep tight… if you can.
