The following was sent out Monday by the Police Department to address rumored altercations that happened over the weekend. involving Williston Basin School District #7 students a school functions.

WPD's press release sent at 11:44am CST on 9/29/2025:

The Williston Police Department would like to address community concerns regarding an incident at the WHS Close Up Club-sponsored Fall Formal Dance, held Saturday evening. September 27th, at the Bakken Gym.

A rumor circulated on social media claiming that a student had been stabbed during an
altercation at the dance. At this time, that information is unfounded. There were two
separate fights between students on the dance floor; no weapons were found to be
involved.

The Williston Police Department continues to investigate the incidents, and charges are possible. In a separate and unrelated matter, a student experienced a medical issue that required an ambulance response.

On Sunday afternoon, the Williston Basin School District #7 issued a statement to
ParentSquare to clarify the facts and address the rumors. Later that evening, a local media outlet posted a cell phone video of one of the fights. The video contained sensitive content involving juveniles, which caused understandable concern in the community. The cell phone video has since been removed. The Williston Police Department is conducting a further review of the incident.

We will continue to work closely with the Williston Basin School District #7 regarding this matter.
