We’re officially eight days into the new year, and while many of us are still writing “2025” on checks (yes, some people still do that), Williston already has a brand-new reason to celebrate. CHI St. Alexius Health Williston Medical Center announced some heartwarming news: the first baby of 2026 has arrived, and he made quite the entrance.

Baby Samuel Thompson was born at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, proving that even the new year likes to ease into things at its own pace. Proud parents Aubrianna and Erik Thompson of Williston welcomed Samuel, who tipped the scales at a healthy 7 pounds, 14 ounces. He was delivered by Dr. Tong, and according to mom, the surprise factor was very real.

First Baby Surprise: Samuel Arrives on January 6 and Steals the Spotlight

“We could not believe he was the first baby of the year on the 6th!” Aubrianna shared, adding that plenty of other babies followed soon after. Apparently, Samuel didn’t just open the door for 2026—he kicked it wide open.

The Thompsons couldn’t say enough good things about their experience at CHI St. Alexius Health, praising the staff for their excellent care. And Samuel didn’t leave empty-handed either. As the first baby of the year, he was presented with a gift basket filled with baby essentials, donated by the Upper Missouri District Health Unit and CHI St. Alexius Health Williston. Not bad for a newborn’s first prize.

Double the Diapers: The Thompson Family Enters the “Two Under Two” Club

At home, Samuel is already stepping into an exciting role: little brother. He joins 21-month-old Maverick, meaning the Thompson household is now officially a “two under two” zone. That’s double the diapers, double the snacks, and double the adventure.

As 2026 gets underway, Samuel’s arrival is a sweet reminder that the new year doesn’t just bring resolutions and calendars—it brings new beginnings. Welcome to the world, Samuel, and welcome to a very busy year, Thompson family.
