Lighting Up Red To Honor Our Fallen Firefighters
The Williston Fire Department will illuminate its three fire stations in red from April 26 through May 3 as part of a national tribute honoring firefighters who died in the line of duty.
The effort is part of the Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters campaign led by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, which encourages communities across all 50 states to display red lights at landmarks, businesses, fire stations, and homes. The campaign leads into the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend in Emmitsburg, where the names of 204 fallen firefighters will be added to the national memorial on May 3.

“Light the Night gives communities a simple way to take part in remembrance,” said Victor Stagnaro. “For the families who have lost a firefighter, these lights mean more than you’d know. When a firehouse, landmark, or front porch turns red, it says their loved one is not forgotten. That their sacrifice still matters. And that we’re all standing with them.”
Officials said the tribute also recognizes firefighters from North Dakota who died in the line of duty, including Williston Rural Firefighter Jeffrey Haugen, who died at a structure fire in 1984.
