Williston’s XWA to Hold Emergency Response Exercise Saturday
Williston Basin International Airport will be the center of an emergency training operation this weekend as local responders carry out a federally required full-scale drill designed to test preparedness in the event of a real crisis.
When to Expect The Training
The exercise, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 6, will take place from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and involve airport staff, Williams County Emergency Management, and a range of fire, medical, and law enforcement agencies.
Residents and travelers in the area should expect to see increased emergency vehicle activity and first responders on-site. Officials emphasized that the scenario is strictly a training exercise and poses no danger to the public.
Airport Director Anthony Dudas said the event is an important opportunity for agencies to coordinate and evaluate emergency plans.
“We take emergency preparedness seriously, and this exercise helps ensure that our community and first responders are ready should a real emergency occur at the airport.” Dudas said in a statement.
Help Needed
The airport is also calling on volunteers to help make the simulation as realistic as possible. Anyone age 10 or older is welcome, with parental supervision required for minors. No previous experience is necessary. Participants should report to the ARFF-Operations Center at XWA by 7 a.m. for a safety briefing before being assigned roles in the drill. Breakfast and lunch will be provided, and the exercise is expected to wrap up around 1 p.m.
Officials encouraged community participation, noting that these types of drills sharpen response capabilities and help build public confidence in emergency readiness.

While the sight of flashing lights and emergency crews may raise concern for those passing by, authorities stressed there is no actual emergency and urged the public to treat Saturday’s activity as a rehearsal for safety.
