Two Juveniles Arrested After Firearm Theft and Vehicle Break-In Spree in Watford City

Residents in several Watford City neighborhoods are being urged to check their vehicles after police say two juveniles were involved in a firearm theft and a string of vehicle burglaries that may have affected more than 20 vehicle owners.

According to the Watford City Police Department, officers were called to the 300 block of 6th Street NE at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, following a report that two juveniles had entered private property and stolen a handgun from an unlocked vehicle.

Witnesses reportedly observed the juveniles leaving the area with the loaded firearm. Officers quickly responded, gathering witness statements and reviewing surveillance footage that provided detailed descriptions of the suspects. Law enforcement conducted an extensive search throughout the night but was unable to immediately locate the individuals involved.

Investigation Continued Through the Night

The investigation took another turn at approximately 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, when officers responded to a report of another vehicle that had been entered and searched through. Although nothing was reported stolen from that vehicle, investigators believed the incident was connected to the ongoing case.

Throughout the morning, officers and detectives continued reviewing surveillance footage and collecting evidence. Their efforts ultimately led to the identification of the two juvenile suspects, who were later taken into custody without incident.

More Than 20 Vehicles Believed Targeted

As investigators dug deeper into the case, they discovered evidence suggesting the juveniles may have entered more than 20 vehicles across Watford City during the overnight hours. Police believe cash and other personal property may have been stolen from several of the vehicles.

The juveniles have been referred on multiple criminal charges, including unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, theft of property (firearm), accomplice to theft of property (firearm), and theft of property.

Residents Asked to Check Vehicles

Police say only a limited number of victims have reported thefts so far, but investigators believe many more vehicle owners may have been affected.

• 3rd Avenue NW

The investigation remains active, and officials say additional charges could be filed as more victims come forward. Police are also reminding residents to lock their vehicles and avoid leaving firearms, valuables, or personal property unattended inside.
