Watford City was buzzing yesterday! And not just from the caffeine in those early-morning coffees. The excitement was all about the grand opening of the brand-new McDonald’s, and let me tell you, the community showed up bright and early. How early? Try 4:30 in the morning. Yes, before the sun even considered clocking in for the day, folks were already lining up, bundled up, and ready to be among the first through the golden arches.

Keep in mind, the restaurant didn’t open until 6:00am, but that didn’t stop anyone. When Watford City wants a sausage McMuffin, Watford City means business.

Dakota Country 96.1 was there, broadcasting live and catching the excitement firsthand. Between interviews, delicious breakfast smells, and the sight of more cars than a Black Friday sale, it was clear this wasn’t just any opening—it was a community event.

Meet the Owners Behind Watford City’s New McDonald’s—and the Drive-Thru Moving 100 Cars an Hour

While we were there, we had the chance to meet Melissa Williams, the owner of the new location. She couldn’t have been more gracious as she thanked the Watford City community for the warm welcome. Melissa and her husband, Dave, are no strangers to the McDonald’s world—they also own locations in Bismarck, Mandan, and Dickinson. With this newest restaurant, they’re adding a fresh set of golden arches to their growing North Dakota lineup.

And speaking of Dave, he shared a jaw-dropping nugget of information during the lunch rush. They were moving around 100 cars per hour through the drive-thru. That’s not just fast food—that’s North Dakota efficiency at its finest.
