Speeding in North Dakota? Your Insurance Premiums Could Soar
Every day, countless drivers push the speed limit, dismissing it as a minor offense. But with rising insurance premiums and community safety on the line, is saving five minutes really worth the potential consequences?
A new analysis from the MarketWatch Guides team sheds light on the financial burden speeding can place on North Dakota drivers. Collaborating with auto insurance expert David Straughan, the study reveals the real cost of a speeding ticket.
According to the findings, drivers in North Dakota face a 19% hike in their full coverage auto insurance premiums after a speeding violation. This means their rates can jump from $184 to $218. Even those with minimum liability policies aren't spared; they see an 18% increase, raising their monthly costs from $43 to $50.
Beyond the financial implications, speeding contributes to a significant portion of fatal accidents. From 2018 to 2022, speeding was a factor in more than a quarter of all fatal crashes, accounting for 27.3% of such incidents.
David Straughan, an auto insurance expert, emphasizes the broader impact of speeding.
“While the immediate fine is an annoyance, the long-term financial hit from increased premiums is where drivers really feel the sting,” he explains. “Beyond that, the potential for serious accidents underscores the risks.”
Ultimately, while speeding might seem trivial at the moment, the financial and human costs are far too steep to ignore.
Next time you're tempted to rush, consider the real price you might end up paying, and ask yourself if it's worth it.
