According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune Minnesota company Yelloh, formally Schwan's, is laying off 750 employees nationwide and closing 90 delivery centers.

The food delivery business, formerly known as Schwan's Home Delivery, has been a staple in communities throughout Minnesota, Iowa, and South Dakota.

The Tribune is reporting that the Bloomington-based company stated in a news release that:

"Facing economic headwinds, rising business costs, and the post-pandemic world, our teams across the country have worked valiantly to transform our company into a modern category leader. Despite those efforts, and like many retail businesses, we must now close locations and face a difficult reality."

The closures will take effect beginning December 8th.

Yelloh trucks will continue to deliver in Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin.  North Dakota was not among the states that were saved from the chopping block.

However, North Dakota can still get their ice-cream delivered by UPS by ordering through the Yelloh website.

So why did Schwan's change its name?

They explain on Yelloh.com

"We are incredibly proud of our 70+ year history as Schwan's Home Delivery.

As the originators of frozen food delivery, we're always dreaming up new ways to innovate.

That spirit led us to evolve our name and our brand.

Our name change to Yelloh is part of a brand evolution, along with changes to our website and app, more delivery options, and digital tools to boost the ways we can be convenient to customers."

Schwan's began home delivery in 1952. In 2018, the Schwan family sold a 70% share of its business to the Korean firm CJ CheilJedang for $1.8 billion. But the family kept the Schwan's Home Delivery business and rebranded it last year as Yelloh.
