There’s a new retiree in town—but don’t expect to see him golfing or playing shuffleboard anytime soon. After over four years of sniffing out trouble and keeping Williston safe, K9 Officer Sisu of the Williston Police Department has officially retired. And let’s be honest—he’s earned every belly rub coming his way.

I had the pleasure of meeting Sisu just before the K9 event at the fairgrounds last year. And let me tell you, this dog meant business. When he was in “work” mode, you could practically see the gears turning. He listened to his handler, Officer Jason Jonas, with laser focus. But the moment it was time to play, boom—Sisu became a blur of fur and paws. Quick as lightning doesn’t even begin to cover it.

Sisu wasn’t just fast; he was fierce in all the right ways. Trained in narcotics detection and patrol support, Sisu was instrumental in helping keep our community safe. His nose knew no bounds, and his dedication was as steady as his wagging tail.

I was lucky enough to get a challenge coin with Sisu’s image on it—a little keepsake that now means a little more as I write this. It’s not every day you get to meet a true four-legged hero.

As Sisu transitions from patrol car to couch cushion, we thank him and Officer Jonas for their incredible service. May retirement be filled with endless squeaky toys, delicious treats, and some much-earned naps in the sun.

Enjoy your well-earned downtime, Sisu. You’ll always be one of Williston’s top dogs.
