More Snow on the Way: What North Dakota Can Expect This Week
If you were hoping winter was finally loosening its grip on North Dakota, this might be a good time to pause… and keep that snow shovel right where it is. Another round of winter weather is shaping up for the region, with a winter storm expected to impact western and central North Dakota from Tuesday through late Wednesday.

Wintry Mix to Snow Expected as Storm Strengthens Tuesday
According to early forecasts, precipitation is expected to begin Tuesday morning as a wintry mix, which may include a combination of rain, snow, and possibly freezing rain. As temperatures cool and the system strengthens, that mix is expected to transition to all snow, moving from northwest to southeast through the afternoon and evening hours.

Snowfall Totals Vary by Location; Travel Impacts Likely Across the Region
Snowfall totals will vary depending on location. Williston could see anywhere from 1 to 5 inches of snow, enough to create slick roads and reduced visibility at times. Crosby may be in line for higher amounts, with forecasts calling for 3 to 8 inches, which could significantly impact travel conditions. Farther east, Minot could receive 2 to 7 inches of snow, depending on how quickly the system moves through the area.
If you have travel plans toward Bismarck, conditions may be somewhat lighter, with the capital city expected to see anywhere from a trace up to 2 inches of snow. While amounts there may be lower, even light snowfall can still create icy patches—especially during early morning or overnight hours.
Regardless of totals, drivers are urged to prepare for slippery roads, blowing snow in open areas, and possible travel delays. Allow extra time to reach your destination, slow down, and keep an emergency kit in your vehicle if you’re heading out. As always, conditions can change quickly, so be sure to check the latest road and travel updates before you go.
Winter isn’t done with us just yet—and this storm is a good reminder that March weather in North Dakota can still pack a punch. Stay safe and stay weather-aware.
