Montana has a rich history of both hunting and conservation efforts, and a state program is offering to help kill two birds with one stone.

Montana landowners who are interested in the 2025 Block Management Program are encouraged to submit their applications to Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks before the June 1st deadline.

Landowners and FWP cooperate through the Block Management Program to assist in controlling public hunting activity on listed areas.

These voluntary agreements between landowners and FWP determine how hunting will be conducted on the landowner’s property. The permissions regulate times when permission will be granted, hunting opportunities provided, and vehicle use; these are a few examples of what is covered in an agreement.

Landowners enrolled in the program benefit from Block Management in several ways, including assistance from FWP staff to help monitor hunting activities, compensation to help offset impacts associated with allowing public hunting, wildlife management, a free subscription to Montana Outdoors magazine, and a free, nontransferable sportsman or big game combination (nonresident) license.

When landowners enroll in Block Management, they will not be giving up any rights and will be covered by Montana's recreational liability statute as well as livestock loss reimbursement, both of which are offered to landowners who allow access at no charge; landowners do not give up any rights.
