North Dakota Halloween: The Costumes We’ll See Most In 2026

Ever year, North Dakotans get a little more creative with their Halloween costumes, and this year should be no different.

Over the years, I've seen a group of guys dressed up as traffic cones, crossing Bismarck's Main St, plopping themselves down across crosswalks. I've seen a group of girl friends dressed as the Golden Girls. I've also seen the most impressive Peg Bundy (Married...With Children) costume.

Here are my predictions for the costumes you'll see most in North Dakota this Halloween.

#1. (Greek Mythology) The Odyssey

Athena, Odysseus, Zeus. With the release of the new film, I think we're going to see a lot of Greek mythology-inspired costumes this year, which is nice because robes are very comfortable.

#2. Practical Magic

Another film release will probably inspire many North Dakotans to channel their inner witches. Expect to see plenty of  people walking around with midnight margaritas, black hats, and umbrellas. As long as no one tries to float off a rooftop bar, I think it's a great costume idea.

#3. K-Pop Demon Hunters

Oh yes, I predict that many North Dakotans, kids and adults, are going to be golden and going up-up-uptown for some candy and some fun. You can't go anywhere without hearing the Demon Hunters song or seeing a kiddo with some sort of K-Pop Demon Hunter apparel on. It's everywhere right now, and I'd bet real money that it shows up on Bismarck porches this year.

#4. Toy Story

Toy Story was huge this year, and honestly is every year - it's a classic. With the release of the new movie and Taylor Swift contributing to the soundtrack, I think we're going to see a lot of Woody's and Buzz Lightyears running around.

#5. Tay & Travis

Speaking of Taylor Swift, we can't make costume predictions without considering this one. Don't be surprised if Taylor and Travis (the bride and groom of the year) show up at your neighborhood Halloween party.
