Fall has officially arrived in Williston! The air is crisp, pumpkin spice is in everything, and—like clockwork—the leaves are covering lawns faster than you can say “where did my rake go?” Whether you’re a weekend warrior armed with a leaf blower or the “I’ll get to it eventually” type, one question always comes up: where do all these leaves go?

Good news, Williston has you covered—literally—with four city composting locations where you can drop off those colorful piles of crunchy chaos. Just remember: these sites are for leaves and grass only (no branches, no bags of mystery yard waste, no pumpkins from last week’s porch display).

Here’s where you can take them:

  • Corner of 5th St E & 8th Ave E – across from the old Public Works building.
  • Western Star Complex – 19th Ave W & 15th St W.
  • Rickard Elementary School – 14th St E & 2nd Ave E.
  • Harvest Hills – Prairie Commons between 44th Ave W & Long Branch Ave.

If you’ve bagged your leaves (because, let’s face it, sometimes that’s the only way to keep them from blowing into your neighbor’s yard), you can toss the empty bags into the 300-gallon containers provided at each site.

And here’s a fun bonus! If you prefer to take your compost straight to the landfill, it’s free of charge! So, rake up, breathe in that autumn air, and feel good knowing your leaves are being turned into something useful instead of clogging storm drains or sneaking under your car tires.
