Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana (BCBSMT) has notified members of a potential security incident involving its online member portal, Blue Access for Members, that may have exposed protected health information (PHI) to unauthorized individuals.
According to a letter mailed to affected individuals, BCBSMT became aware of the activity on Feb. 11, 2025. The unauthorized access may have occurred between Nov. 8th, 2024, and March 5th, 2025.
“This potential disclosure may have occurred between Nov. 8, 2024, and March 5, 2025,” the letter states.
The information potentially involved includes names, addresses, birth dates, phone and fax numbers, email addresses, medical record and account numbers, service dates, and medical or dental billing information.
“We are committed to maintaining the privacy and security of your information, and we are taking this incident very seriously,” the company said.
BCBSMT said there is “no reason to believe that anyone has accessed or misused your information.” However, members are encouraged to review their Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and report any unfamiliar services.
“To help protect your identity, we are offering a complimentary one-year membership of Experian’s® IdentityWorks℠,” the letter adds.

Members with questions are asked to call the toll-free number on their ID card. “The privacy of our members is a top priority. We are sorry for any concern caused by this incident,” BCBSMT said.
