Before my mom struck off for Arizona for the winter, she asked me to take of her plants again. I do not mind doing this at all, but it can be a chore from time to time. I thought it might be a good idea to just bring them to the radio station. Then I wouldn't have to drive over there as much. We have tons of natural light and plenty of room. Then Mom asked the question...what about the cats?

Ally & CC

For those that do not know, we have 2 cats here at the station. Ally and CC have been here for 13 years, and this is their home. It never registered with me that a plant could possibly kill them if they chewed on it. Let's take a look at some plants that are cat and dog friendly.

Ponytail Palm

Ponytail Palm

The ponytail palm is a beautiful plant that requires little effort to keep healthy. They do look a little funny if your cat decides to chew on the leaves. They do grow back fairly fast.

Zebra Calathea

Zebra Calathea

Personally, I have not had much luck with houseplants. This one is a fairly hardy plant for those that do not have a green thumb. I love the look of the two-tone green leaves and that it is pet safe.

Baby Rubber Plant

Baby Rubber Plant

This is one you need to be careful with. The original rubber plant (Ficus elastic) is not good for animals. If you want to have these plants, be sure to get the baby rubber plant.

Swedish Ivy

Swedish Ivy

This type of ivy is great for any house. It has a pleasant smell of lilac because of its small flowers and it's safe for a house with animals.

These are some of the nicest and pet-friendly houseplants. Spider plants, Gloxinia, Moth Orchid, Staghorn Fern, Bromeliads, Zebra plant, African Violet, Polka Dot, Friendship plant, and Areca palm are some other houseplants you might like to try as well.
