As fire season continues, more counties find themselves under fire restrictions.

Toole, Teton, and Liberty counties in north-central Montana have now enforced Stage I fire restrictions. In response, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) will also implement these restrictions on its properties within these counties.

The affected FWP-managed sites include Pishkun Fishing Access Site (FAS), Ear Mountain Wildlife Management Area (WMA), Blackleaf WMA, Freezout WMA, Arod Lake FAS, Eureka FAS, Bynum FAS, Marias River WMA, and Marias Crossing FAS.

Under the Stage I restrictions, the use of fires or campfires is strictly prohibited at FWP sites. Smoking is only allowed within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or in a cleared area of at least three feet in diameter free from flammable materials. However, recreationists are permitted to cook using liquid petroleum gas or propane stoves that can be turned on and off.

These restrictions will remain in place until further notice. Given the current dry conditions and heightened fire danger, FWP urges everyone to exercise caution while engaging in outdoor activities.
