It’s that time of year when the pumpkin spice has barely faded, and already, we’re debating: when is it socially acceptable to break out the winter holiday decorations? We asked our 660 KEYZ News Radio Facebook followers, and the responses rolled in faster than Santa’s sleigh on Christmas Eve!

Festive Fans Say: The Sooner, the Better!

Some of you are already in full festive mode. A few folks say, “Now!” and one listener even insists that if your decorations aren’t up yet, you’re already behind! There’s a strong “the-sooner-the-better” crowd who believe Dracula should make way for Santa—or maybe even a Thanksgiving turkey—for some true holiday multitasking.

Thanksgiving Weekend: A Balanced Start for Holiday Cheer

For others, it’s all about Thanksgiving weekend. They argue it’s the perfect time to swap the fall colors for twinkling lights, while still giving the turkey its moment in the spotlight. But there’s a practical side to this, too: one of our listeners shared a hilarious tale about their pets turning last year’s Christmas tree into a jungle gym, so this year’s decorating schedule might get a rethink.

December 1st Loyalists: Don’t Rush the Turkey!

Then, there are the purists. They’re holding strong for December 1st or later, with one listener humorously warning that every premature Christmas decoration risks the wrath of the Thanksgiving turkey.

If you ask me, I say get those lights up while the weather holds! No one wants to be on a ladder when it’s below freezing. But the lights? Let them rest in darkness until after Thanksgiving, giving that turkey the respect it deserves before Rudolph starts lighting up the night.

Of course, there’s a universal theme in all these responses: decorate when it makes you happy. As one listener put it, “It’s still a free country!” Whether you’re ready to jingle all the way or prefer a slower holiday transition, your décor timeline is yours to decide! So, grab those lights, or maybe just the last of your Halloween candy—tis the season, whenever you want it to be!
