One of my fondest memories involving Williston's finest comes up again this weekend! The Williston Police Association is proud to announce the 54th "Guns vs. Hoses" Softball Game. This event not only encourages friendly competition but also shows how important it is for the Williston Police Department and the Williston Fire Department to work together. I can still remember the laughs on the field, the way both sides worked the opponents and all the fun they had together after the game.

The "Guns vs. Hoses" Softball Game, which will take place on August 26 at Ardean Aafedt Stadium, has become a Williston tradition that shows the spirit of friendship and unity between these two vital parts of our community. This fun event gives the Police Department and Fire Department a chance to compete against each other while also giving the community a chance to meet their local First Responders in a casual and fun setting.

The Williston Police Association is made up of hardworking members of the Williston Police Department. It acts as a goodwill group that gives back to the community in many important ways.  The group also shows how much it cares about First Responders by giving money to the families of officers who have died on the job all over the state. The "Guns vs. Hoses" Softball Game is the association's biggest fundraiser, which helps them keep doing good things for the community. I had a chance to talk to Heather Cook, the Public Information Officer for the City of Williston about past events, and she said "The whole point of the Police Association is to give back to the community and other First Responders." This ambitious crew does a great job doing just that.

The big day starts at 3:00 p.m. and includes things like inflatables for kids and Jer Bears Sno Shack. Before the first pitch is thrown, this is a great chance for people in the community to talk with people from the police department and the fire department. The stadium gates open at 4:00 p.m. and the game starts at 5:00 p.m. You're encouraged to get there early to get the best seat in the house.

In addition to the softball games, the event has a 50/50 raffle, fun prizes for the kids during breaks, and, in a unique collaboration with the Williston Police Department, two small electric replicas of the WPD squad cars that the kids can ride in. I wish they had that car when I was growing up!

I can still remember sitting in the stands wanting the policemen to win. They have had a good winning streak so far. This year, the Fire Department wants to win the prized award.  This friendly competition shows how much these important parts of the community value and work with each other.

It also shows how much they care about the safety and well-being of the people they serve. Make plans now to attend this game on Saturday!
