Massive Garage Fire In Williston, Sparks 1st Alarm Response
Late on Sunday night, November 10, the Williston Fire Department (WFD) responded to a significant residential garage fire on the 2700 block of 19th Avenue West. Dispatched by the Williams County Dispatch Center (WCDC) at 10:02 PM, the call came in following multiple reports of a fully engulfed garage with visible flames and explosions.
Given the severity of the fire, the WFD activated a 1st Alarm response, which included deploying two fire engines, a ladder truck, and command staff. Members of the City of Williston Police Department (WPD) also responded to assist with traffic control and scene security, while Williams County Emergency Management provided additional support services.
The first fire crew, Engine 1 from Fire Station #1, arrived on the scene at 10:08 PM to find three garage units actively burning, with flames threatening nearby residences and additional garage units. Firefighters promptly initiated firefighting operations, while WPD officers began evacuating endangered homes. By 10:39 PM, the fire was fully contained.
Despite efforts to save the structures, two attached garages and their contents were completely lost, while a third detached garage suffered partial damage. Additionally, five residential row homes and a parked vehicle sustained heat exposure damage. Fortunately, all residents were able to return to their homes later in the night.
The response involved a total of 21 firefighters, including units Engine 3, Engine 1, Truck 2, Medic 1, and command staff. By 12:11 AM, most WFD units had cleared the scene, although Fire Prevention Division personnel continued investigating until 2:05 AM.
The WFD Fire Prevention Division confirmed the fire’s origin but was unable to determine an exact cause, though they ruled out electrical issues. Notably, fireworks materials were discovered nearby, and multiple witnesses reported a firework being ignited shortly before the fire started. The incident is currently considered non-intentional.
