Road Improvement Project On County Road 1 In Williams County

I just learned about a significant road improvement project happening in Williams County during a visit this morning with Williams County Administrator Helen Askim.

Williams County has officially begun work on an extensive reconstruction project along County Road 1 (145th Avenue NW), a heavily traveled route in the county. The project covers approximately eight miles of roadway, stretching from County Road 6 (56th Street NW) north to County Road 8 (64th Street NW). Click here for the county map link.

According to county officials, construction is expected to continue through the summer and conclude in mid-October, weather permitting.

More Than a Resurfacing Project

As part of the project, a temporary closure is currently in place on a one-mile section of County Road 1 between 63rd Street NW and County Road 8. Motorists traveling in the area should be aware that detours have been established and are encouraged to allow extra travel time while construction is underway.

This is much more than a simple resurfacing project. The work involves salvaging the existing aggregate material, rebuilding and strengthening the roadbed, and replacing aging drainage infrastructure. Several existing corrugated metal pipe (CMP) culverts will be removed and replaced with reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) culverts. In addition, crews will install a brand-new box culvert designed to improve water flow and drainage capacity in the area.

A Long-Term Solution for a Well-Traveled Route

County officials say the improvements are necessary to address roadway wear and aging infrastructure that has developed over time. By rebuilding the road from the ground up and upgrading drainage systems, the county hopes to improve driving conditions, reduce future maintenance needs, and extend the overall lifespan of the roadway.
