The issue stems from a labeling mix-up that could pose a potential health risk to certain individuals.

The affected product is Great Value Honey Roasted Cashews, packaged in 8.25-oz plastic cans with a blue label displaying the expiration date "Best if used by Jul 8, 2025 GH2." While these snacks may appear harmless, they may contain allergens such as coconut and milk due to the labeling error.

What Coconut Allergy Symptoms To Look Out For

Symptoms of a coconut allergy can range from mild to severe and may include the following:

  • hives
  • itching
  • nausea
  • skin rash
  • dizziness
  • coughing
  • diarrhea
  • sneezing
  • swelling in the throat
  • difficulty swallowing
  • runny nose or eyes
  • shortness of breath
  • fast or slow heartbeat
  • anaphylaxis — a life-threatening emergency involving difficulty breathing

The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (AAAAI) notes that a person may experience any of these symptoms after coming into contact with a small amount of coconut.

If anyone is experiencing any worsening symptoms, including anaphylaxis, they should contact the doctor or visit the closest hospital right away. Without prompt treatment, anaphylaxis can be fatal.

Consumers are advised to check their pantries for any of these recalled items and to dispose of them immediately or return them to Walmart for a full refund. The recall is a precautionary measure to prevent any adverse reactions among individuals who are allergic to or sensitive to these ingredients.

Although there have been no reported incidents related to this recall, the importance of awareness and caution cannot be overstated. It is crucial for consumers to remain vigilant and informed about product recalls to ensure their safety and well-being.

This recall serves as a reminder of the importance of food safety and the need for careful attention to product labels. By staying informed and proactive, consumers can help maintain the integrity of their snacking choices and safeguard their health.
