Williston Police Department Officer-Involved Shooting

According to the Williston Police Department, on July 23, 2024, at approximately 12:47 PM, the WPD responded to a report of an individual armed with a knife in the 1300 block of 18th St. W.

The investigation is ongoing, with the Williston Police Department collaborating with the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigations and other local law enforcement agencies.

Currently, details are limited. However, it has been confirmed that during the encounter, an officer discharged their weapon, resulting in the individual being shot. Emergency life-saving measures were performed at the scene, and emergency medical personnel were called in for further assistance. The individual was transported to a local hospital but unfortunately did not survive.

The deceased has been identified as 31-year-old Matthew Austin Gullo of Williston.
