Step Right Up! Williams County 4-H Needs Volunteers
Calling all helpful humans, lovers of livestock, and fans of fair fun — the UMV Fair in Williston is just around the corner, and the Williams County 4-H program needs a hand or two… or twenty.
From goats to goats (did we mention goats?), the 4-H events are a big part of the fair. But it takes a team of dedicated volunteers to keep things running smoother than a freshly brushed show cow. That’s where you come in.
Barnyard Bonanza: Volunteer Roles Galore For 4-H Events at the UMV Fair!
Right now, there’s a full barnyard of roles open: judges, show volunteers, photographers, scale operators (the ones who get to say “Whoa, that’s a big one!”), cat show assistants (yes, there’s a CAT SHOW!), dog show ring volunteers, announcers, livestock show helpers, and even folks to water down the ring and rake it to perfection like a Zen garden with hooves.

One Hour or One Barnful—Every Volunteer Makes a Big Difference!
Whether you’ve got time to help with one event or a whole barn full, your efforts make a big difference. As someone who’s served on the fair board for 20 fairs (yes, twenty!), I can promise you that volunteers are the secret sauce to any successful event.

No Experience? No Problem! Just Bring a Smile (and Maybe a Sunhat)
You don’t need a 4-H background or a prize-winning pig. Just bring your enthusiasm, maybe a sunhat, and a willingness to jump in. Helping out means supporting local kids, community pride, and maybe even getting a ribbon or cookie as thanks.
Ready to pitch in? Call the Williams County Extension Office at 701-577-4595, and let them know what you are willing to do!
