Fatal Crash On Highway 2 Near Ray, North Dakota, Under Investigation

A tragic crash in Williams County claimed the life of a Tioga man Tuesday afternoon, according to the North Dakota State Patrol.

The fatal single-vehicle rollover occurred at approximately 3:53 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, along U.S. Highway 2 near mile marker 59, about five miles east of Ray.

High Speed Believed to Be Factor in Fatal Highway 2 Rollover Crash Near Ray

Authorities say a 31-year-old man from Tioga was driving a 2024 Hyundai Kona westbound on Highway 2 when the vehicle was traveling at what investigators described as a high rate of speed. For reasons that remain under investigation, the SUV failed to maintain its lane, drifted into the ditch, and struck an intersecting road.

The impact caused the Hyundai to roll several times before coming to rest in a nearby field.

Despite emergency response efforts, the driver suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The North Dakota State Patrol reported that the driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Road and weather conditions were reported to be dry when the crash occurred, indicating that environmental conditions were not considered a contributing factor based on the initial investigation.

Several agencies responded to the scene, including the North Dakota State Patrol, Williams County Sheriff's Office, Tioga Fire Department, Tioga Police Department, and Tioga Ambulance.
