As the holiday season draws near, which is packed with joyous parties and mouthwatering meals, we must evaluate the impact that these indulgences will have on our health. It is important to address health-conscious choices now to pave the road for New Year's resolutions in 2024, as we are getting ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas, both of which are synonymous with bountiful feasting.

One aspect to consider in this pursuit of a healthier lifestyle is the level of physical activity in different counties. Stacker compiled a list of the best counties to raise a family in North Dakota. Northwell Health partnered with Stacker to analyze data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's annual PLACES report, released in 2023, to see which counties had the most physically active adults.

#4. Burleigh, North Dakota

- Total population: 98,933
- Share of adults reporting any physical activity: 77.3%

#3. Griggs, North Dakota

- Total population: 2,281
- Share of adults reporting any physical activity: 77.5%

#2. Sargent, North Dakota

- Total population: 3,829
- Share of adults reporting any physical activity: 77.7%

#1. Cass, North Dakota

- Total population: 186,562
- Share of adults reporting any physical activity: 79.3%
Take note that the figure in each county that I highlighted before is higher than 70 percent.  Although Williams, Divide, and McKenzie counties, which make up our tri-county area, placed, their overall score was only slightly higher than 60%. We definitely have some work to do! Let us, as we make our way through the holiday season, take some motivation from these counties and make it our goal to live a life that is both healthier and more active in the year to come. I'll lead the charge with a drumstick in hand!
