Applications will be sought in April 2026 from organizations interested in operating North Dakota’s Summer Food Service Program, according to the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction.

The program is designed to provide free meals to children during periods when school is not in session. Participation is intended to help ensure continued access to nutritious meals throughout the summer months.

Organizations eligible to apply include residential summer camps, private nonprofit organizations, public schools, nonprofit private schools, and local, municipal, county, tribal or state government units. Applicants must meet federal eligibility requirements tied to the income levels of the children served.

Under program rules, at least 50% of the children receiving meals — or living in the area where meals are provided — must be eligible for free or reduced-price meals. Eligibility is determined using local school data or census information.

The Summer Food Service Program operates statewide and is administered through the Department of Public Instruction. Approved sponsors are responsible for organizing meal service sites and ensuring compliance with federal nutrition and reporting standards.

Organizations interested in applying or learning more about program requirements have been directed to contact the Department of Public Instruction. Questions may be addressed to Melissa Anderson, assistant director at the department.
