Thousands Gathered In Medora As Trump Dedicated The Roosevelt Library
Gov. Kelly Armstrong joined Donald Trump and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum on Wednesday for the dedication of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, marking a major milestone tied to the legacy of Theodore Roosevelt.
The event drew thousands to the Badlands town, where leaders highlighted Roosevelt’s deep connection to western North Dakota. In a nod to history, Armstrong, Trump and Burgum rode through Medora aboard a red, white and blue-decorated BNSF Railway train, echoing Roosevelt’s arrival more than a century ago.
After touring the facility, Trump addressed a large crowd gathered at the outdoor amphitheater, following remarks from Armstrong, Burgum and Navy Secretary Hung Cao.
“The Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library has the most stunningly beautiful backyard of any library in history,” Armstrong said. “And I cannot think of a better backdrop to hear from our President as we celebrate 250 years of American greatness.”
Armstrong also reflected on Roosevelt’s personal hardships, noting how the future president came to North Dakota in the 1880s after losing both his wife and mother on the same day. The governor said Roosevelt’s time in the Badlands helped shape him into a leader defined by resilience and determination.
“People are going to come here from every corner of the world,” Armstrong said. “And while here, they will come to understand T.R. the way North Dakotans always have: as a man beset by tragedy but on the verge of greatness.”
Armstrong thanked Trump for visiting North Dakota again, calling attention to the state’s role in celebrating both Roosevelt’s legacy and the country’s milestone anniversary.
Quoting Roosevelt, Armstrong pointed to a message of shared responsibility tied to the nation’s future.
“We have fallen heirs to the most glorious heritage a people ever received,” Armstrong said, citing Roosevelt’s 1886 Independence Day speech in Dickinson. “And each one must do his part if we wish to show that the nation is worthy of its good fortune.”

Armstrong is scheduled to take part in additional events leading up to the library’s grand opening, including moderating discussions on conservation and leadership before delivering remarks at Saturday’s ceremony.
