According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the mugs have the potential to overheat or break when microwaved or filled with very hot beverages, which might cause burns or laceration to users.

Ceramic cups with metallic coatings that display the Starbucks logo are part of four different gift packages that are recalled.

During the 2023 Christmas season, these mugs were available in 11 oz. and 16 oz. sizes as component parts of several gift sets. Starbucks Peppermint and Classic Hot Cocoa and Mug, Starbucks Holiday Blend Coffee and Mug, Starbucks Holiday Gift Set with Two Mugs, and Starbucks Classic Hot Cocoa and Mug are all impacted gift sets.
