Keeping Mosquitoes Away: Fashion Tips To Stay Bite-Free This Season
It will soon be mosquito season in North Dakota, and if you're looking to avoid being swarmed by the little blood suckers, a wardrobe change may be up your alley.
Mosquito season in North Dakota is often hit and miss, but with the recent deluge of rain showers, it may be an itchy summer.
It's a nuisance that nobody wants to deal with.
Some people swear by citronella candles for outdoor use; others try lemongrass or peppermint in your yard to help keep the mosquitoes away, and most of us settle for some high-octane DEET in spray cans.
While these all may play a part in keeping skeeters away, your clothes may be counteracting the preventative work that you are putting in to keep all of your blood inside your body.
Don't Wear These 4 Colors if You Want Mosquitoes to Stay Away
You might want to get ready for a new outfit before we talk about these colors.
According to a report from the University of Washington, mosquitoes are drawn to some colors and not to others.
"The mosquito's sense of smell affects how it reacts to visual cues/colors," their study says. But this color choice only happens when carbon dioxide (CO2) is present, which is what we breathe out.
Mosquitos can sense our breath, sweat, and body temperature, but you might be able to stay away from them if you get rid of the colors that make them want to come in the first place. And if you want to try something to keep bugs away, don't wear these colors:
1. Red
2. Orange
3. Cyan
4. Black
