North Dakota Gets Ready For Another Winter Blast

Today is definitely the best day of the week. I explained on Friday that things will look different, and it is shaping up to be a wild ride. Numerous weather advisories have been issued due to the upcoming snow events we will see in North Dakota Now is a good time to see what all of this weather talk really means.

Winter Storm Warning

A winter storm warning has been issued for eastern Montana and western North Dakota until Tuesday night. Winter Storm Warning: Issued when hazardous winter weather in the form of heavy snow, heavy freezing rain, or heavy sleet is imminent or occurring. Winter Storm Warnings are usually issued 12 to 24 hours before the event is expected to begin.

Winter Weather Advisory

A winter weather advisory has been issued for most of North Dakota. The extreme northwest corner of the state is not affected. A Winter Weather Advisory will be issued for any amount of freezing rain, or when 2 to 4 inches of snow (alone or in combination with sleet and freezing rain), is expected to cause a significant inconvenience, but not serious enough to warrant a warning.

Winter Storm Watch

A winter storm watch is in effect through Thursday afternoon. Winter Storm Warnings are usually issued 12 to 24 hours before the event is expected to begin. Winter Storm Watch: Alerts the public to the possibility of a blizzard, heavy snow, heavy freezing rain, or heavy sleet.

How much snow will we get?

With the systems moving through this week, we will see snow and colder temperatures. The latest forecast shows 2-4 inches for the Williston area. But should things move, we MAY see a bit more.

How cold will it get?

It will definitely be a cold week. The lowest wind chills for our area could be around -24.
