North Dakota Saw Fewer Crimes Across Nearly Every Category In 2025

North Dakota’s 2025 crime was recently released, which showed a steady shift across major categories, with declines in several catagories.

Violent crime reports dipped slightly over the past year. Agencies recorded just under 12,000 offenses involving crimes against persons, including assault and robbery. While the decrease was modest, it continues a pattern of relatively low violent crime levels compared to other categories tracked statewide.

Property crime again made up the largest share of cases. More than 19,000 incidents were reported in 2025, but that figure dropped by more than 12 percent from the previous year. The decline also carried through to the statewide rate. Despite the drop, property crimes still account for roughly 45 percent of all Group A offenses. Clearance rates hovered near one in four cases, with thousands of arrests tied to theft, burglary and related activity.

Crimes against society, including drug and narcotics violations, also declined slightly. Authorities logged more than 11,600 of these offenses, down just over 3 percent. These cases continue to stand out for their high clearance rate, with more than three-quarters resolved through arrest or other enforcement action.

The figures come from agencies across the state using an incident-based reporting system designed to capture detailed information on each case. Officials note that while the system offers a clearer picture of crime trends, shifts in participation and reporting practices can influence year-to-year comparisons.
