West Fargo Patriots Clinch State in Back-to-Back Wins Over Post 400
The West Fargo Patriots completed a dramatic run through the loser’s bracket and captured the 2025 North Dakota AA American Legion baseball championship in thrilling fashion, defeating the previously unbeaten Fargo Post 400 Stars twice in one day.
In front of an electric crowd at Aafedt Stadium, West Fargo blanked the Stars 4-0 in the noon game before riding momentum into a decisive 6-1 victory in the afternoon finale, sealing their spot as state champions.
Game 18: Fargo Post 400 Starts vs West Fargo Patriots
In the first matchup of the day, it was all about Luke Finn. The righty was dominant from the mound, tossing a complete game shutout while also holding the Stars to just five hits over seven innings.
The Patriots broke through in the third inning, stringing together three consecutive singles. Jett Collins opened the scoring with an RBI single, and from there West Fargo never looked back. They added insurance runs as Evan Krogen, Brody Medina, and Finn himself each drove in a run to give the Patriots a cushion.
Offensively, West Fargo stayed aggressive, tallying 11 hits. Medina and Finn were particularly effective, both going 3-for-4 in the game while hitting back-to-back in the order. Defensively, the Patriots turned two double plays to quash any hopes of a Post 400 rally.
Post 400 starter Alex Christopherson was tagged with the loss, giving up three runs on six hits in just over two innings of work. Though five different players collected hits for Fargo, they struggled to string anything together and were held scoreless for the first time in the tournament.
With the 4-0 victory, West Fargo forced a winner-take-all game at 2:30 p.m., with everything on the line.
Game 19: Fargo Post 400 Stars vs West Fargo Patriots
Riding high from their shutout win just hours earlier, the Patriots came out swinging in the championship decider and never let up. Behind another strong performance from their pitching staff and timely hitting, West Fargo completed their improbable climb from the loser’s bracket to hoist the state trophy.
After a scoreless first inning, West Fargo struck first in the second when Landon Zink drew a bases-loaded walk to push across a run. Post 400 answered in the third thanks to a line-drive single down the right field line from Gus Werremeyer to tie things at one.
However, the Patriots responded with authority in the top of the fourth. Zink smashed a two-run double into the gap, and Jett Collins followed with another double to drive him home, putting the Patriots up 4-1.
That momentum was more than enough for starter Austin Ohleen, who kept the Stars off-balance all afternoon. Ohleen went five and a third innings, allowing just one run while striking out five. Parker Hoff came in for relief, shutting the door with one and two-thirds innings of scoreless ball.
Zink led the way with three RBIs, despite recording only one hit. He and Medina both worked two walks apiece as West Fargo showed excellent plate discipline, drawing six total walks. The Patriots were also flawless in the field, committing zero errors in the championship game.
For Post 400, starter Ashton Rinas gave up four runs (two earned) over four innings. The Stars collected eight hits, including two each from Caleb Christianson and Kaleb Blanchette, but they struggled to capitalize on their chances and left too many runners stranded.
As the final out was recorded, West Fargo players erupted from the dugout in celebration, capping off a marathon day of baseball with a hard-earned state championship.
While bittersweet for Post 400, their season is not finished yet with the two losses, as they will be hosting the Central Plains Regional Tournament, starting on Wednesday in Fargo.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the players, coaches, parents, officials, and fans who allowed us to accompany them on this journey that was the 2025 North Dakota AA American Legion baseball tournament.
