Williams County Vector Control to Begin Ground Mosquito Treatment in Ray, Grenora, and Trenton

The Williams County Vector Control District is set to conduct ground adulticide treatments in the communities of Ray, Grenora, and Trenton beginning after sunset on Tuesday, August 5th.

The treatments are contingent upon favorable weather conditions. If conditions do not permit on Tuesday, the operations will be rescheduled for Wednesday, August 6. In Ray and Grenora, the Vector Control  will use Zenivex, which contains the active ingredient Etofenprox, to control mosquito populations.

The town of Trenton will be treated with DeltaGard, which contains Deltamethrin. Both of these insecticides have been approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for residential mosquito control.

The ground attack will take place near sunset, and residents in those areas are advised to maintain a distance of at least 300 feet from Vector Control trucks while fogging operations are underway.

The Vector Control also encourages residents to take personal steps to avoid mosquito bites during peak mosquito activity, particularly between dusk and dawn.

To keep yourself from being eaten alive by mosquitos:

  • Wear long sleeves and pants made from tightly knit fabric
  • Use EPA-registered repellents such as DEET, Picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus
  • Limit outdoor activity during times of high mosquito presence.

Also, eliminate standing water in yards will help reduce mosquito breeding sites near homes.
