Cramer Comments On King Charles First US Visit
King Charles III and Queen Camilla visited the United States this week, marking their first official trip since the king’s ascension and highlighting the relationship between the U.S. and the United Kingdom.
North Dakota Senator Kevin Cramer joined members of Congress and administration officials in welcoming the royal delegation.
The four-day visit included a state arrival ceremony at the White House and events with government officials, military families, and students.
King Charles addressed a joint meeting of Congress, becoming only the second British monarch to do so, following Queen Elizabeth II in 1991.
“To hear King Charles III address Congress while I’m a member of it is really special for me,” Cramer said. “I can’t help but think about myself, a 14th generation American with three ancestors actually on the Mayflower, the ‘original rebels’ if you will.”
Cramer said the address highlighted shared values between the two nations.
“It is moments like this that remind us the relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom transcends history and it maintains relevance today,” he said. “The king, like the president at the White House, talked about values handed down to Americans from Great Britain: freedom, democracy, the rule of law.”
He said the timing of the visit, as the U.S. approaches its 250th anniversary of independence, underscores the strength of the alliance.
“Two countries who were once on opposite sides of a war, as well as an ocean, are now among the closest allies in the world,” Cramer said.

“From the White House ceremony to today’s address before Congress, the whole visit really puts this important partnership on full display for the world to see,” he added. “I was grateful to witness history and to be part of welcoming Their Majesties.”
