There's a lot to love about Montana, the scenery, the lifestyle, the people...but for many, nothing says Montana like the great outdoors.

As the nation's 4th biggest state, Montana offers millions of acres to get outside and enjoy yourself, however, for some of the more popular sites, that comes with a price. Places like Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks bring millions of people and billions of dollars to the state each year, and while most don't complain about the fee to enter the parks, who doesn't love a freebie now and then?

According to the National Park Service, you can visit both Parks for free on select dates in 2024.

For those looking to enjoy either Yellowstone, Glacier, or the Little Bighorn National Monument for free you will want to take note of the following dates:

  • Monday, January 15th:  Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • Saturday, April 20th:  First day of National Park Week
  • Wednesday, June 19th:  Juneteenth
  • Sunday, August 4th:  Great American Outdoors Day
  • Saturday, September 28th:  National Public Lands Day
  • Monday, November 11th:  Veterans Day

For many Montanans, this will allow them to visit the Parks outside of the popular summer season and enjoy the beauty with fewer crowds.

For those with the travel bug, here is some more good news, it's not just the Parks in Montana that are free on those dates, it's almost all National Parks across the United States. When you do the math, more than 120 sites will be free on those dates, including popular places like the Grand Canyon and Yosemite.
