From “Um” to Unstoppable: Toastmasters Invites Williston, North Dakota to Guest Day
If the idea of standing up and speaking in front of other humans makes your palms sweat just a little, or a lot, you’re definitely not alone. The good news? There’s a friendly, no-pressure way to get better at it. You may even have some fun along the way.
If you’ve been curious about Toastmasters International, this is your sign. The Williston Toastmasters group is hosting a Guest Day on Thursday, February 19 at 7:00 a.m. at the new Armory in Williston, and they’re rolling out the welcome mat for anyone who wants to check it out.

Practice Over Perfection (and Plenty of Laughs Along the Way)
Toastmasters isn’t about being perfect, polished, or sounding like you were born with a microphone in your hand. It’s about practice—real, practical, sometimes hilarious practice. Members work on prepared speeches, where you can talk about just about anything you’re passionate about, and impromptu speeches, where you’re given a topic on the spot and asked to think on your feet. Yes, that part sounds scary. But it’s also where the magic happens (and where a lot of laughter sneaks in).
Beyond speaking, Toastmasters also helps members sharpen their grammar, expand their vocabulary, and learn how to communicate more clearly. You might finally stop saying “um” every third word. Or at least notice when you do it. Progress!

Building Confidence That Shows Up Everywhere
But one of the biggest benefits people talk about is confidence. Whether you want to speak up more at work, feel calmer during meetings, give a better presentation, or just not dread introducing yourself in a group, Toastmasters helps build those skills in a supportive environment. Bonus: leadership skills tend to show up too, often when you least expect them.
Guest Day is the perfect chance to sit in, observe, and see what it’s all about—no pressure to speak unless you want to. Bring your curiosity, your coffee, and maybe a friend who “totally doesn’t need help with public speaking” (we all know one).
