North Dakota Beware! A Sargento Cheese Recall Is Sweeping The Nation

A number of shredded cheese products made by the well-known, family-owned cheesemaker Sargento are being recalled because of concerns about possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

While no recalls have yet been issued in North Dakota, you should take special caution, especially when traveling to any of the affected states.

So far, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, Nevada, Ohio, Rhode Island, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin were among the fifteen states that received the recalled goods.

The recall was started in early February and is currently underway, according to the FDA report that was released online. Rizo-López Foods of California, which provided the cheese manufacturer with some ingredients, is the subject of a much broader inquiry by the FDA and CDC, which is also connected to the recall. Consequently, Sargento's agreement with Rizo-López has been dissolved.

Even though most of the impacted goods were sold to companies rather than people, anyone who thinks they have Sargento cheese that may be contaminated should either throw it away or take it back to the store where it was bought.

Keep in mind that Listeria monocytogene-contaminated food may not seem or smell bad, but it can cause serious or even deadly infections. Among the many symptoms of listeriosis, as reported by the CDC, are fever, muscular aches, exhaustion, stiff neck, and headaches.
