Williston State College To Offer Monthly FAFSA Q&A Session
Starting in February, Williston State College will host monthly Financial Aid Q&A sessions to assist students and families in understanding the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and the financial aid opportunities available.
These sessions will take place on the 3rd Thursday of each month, from 5:30-6:30 pm, in the Teton Lounge, with a virtual option available.
The 2025-26 FAFSA is essential for students applying for scholarships such as the Tuition and Fees Scholarship, Homesteader Scholarship, Return2College Scholarship, and MonDak Scholarship, all of which have a September 30, 2025 deadline. Completing the FAFSA can also determine eligibility for the Pell Grant, Federal Work-Study, ND State Grant, and various WSC internal scholarships.
"These sessions are designed to make the financial aid process as clear and simple as possible," said Andrea Carver, Director of Financial Aid at Williston State College. "We want students and parents to feel confident about completing the FAFSA and taking advantage of the many opportunities available to fund their education. The recent changes to the FAFSA process have made it more user-friendly than ever."
The U.S. Department of Education has simplified the FAFSA by reducing the number of questions and making it easier to input tax information. Students and parents now need only to provide consent, and tax information will transfer directly to the application. Additionally, parents without a Social Security number can now create an FSA ID, making the process more inclusive.
Attendees will also learn that students who submit a verified FAFSA are eligible for federal student loans, though accepting a loan is not required. The Financial Aid Office will also address concerns about FAFSA verification—a common process to ensure the accuracy of information submitted.
Who Should Attend:
These sessions are ideal for students, parents, and anyone with questions about the financial aid process.
